Tiling

for viola and piano

Jointly commissioned by the Music Teachers National Association and South Carolina Music Teachers Association in 2009, Tiling (2009) was written for violist Connie Gee and pianist Lynn Kompass. In mathematics, tiling refers to filling the two-dimensional plane, or higher dimensions, with geometric figures. Tiling the plane in a periodic manner using triangles, squares, pentagons or other polygons is called a tessellation explores various musical manifestations of tessellation processes.
